Who We Are

Open Door Ministry is the name of the English congregation of Vineyard Presbyterian Church. We are a predominantly Asian-American ministry located in Elmhurst, Illinois. We are a small but growing community of believers committed to glorifying God through the proclaiming of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the building up of the faith and the spiritual character of our members through regular Bible study, prayer, and fellowship, and the loving of our neighbor through acts of mercy and compassion both here and abroad.

The name Open Door Ministry is derived from John 10:9 where the Lord Jesus Christ welcomes lost sinners to Himself, stating, “I am the door; if anyone enters in through Me he shall be saved.” In this verse, the Lord Jesus Christ invites one and all to receive the eternal life that He alone can give. We desire to exemplify the central truth of this verse in the way we conduct our ministry. Open Door Ministry welcomes anyone into our fellowship who desires to grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. We warmly invite those who seek to know more about Christianity along with those who are hurting and in need of spiritual counsel to come visit our church and find a home here.

Our Faith

WE BELIEVE the Bible, the Old and New Testaments, is the Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts. We believe the Bible to be the complete revelation of His will for the salvation for man.  We believe the Bible to be the final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

WE BELIEVE in one God, Creator of the heavens and earth and all living things, infinitely perfect and eternally co-existing in three Persons:  the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe that God is a Spirit: Eternal, Unchangeable, Almighty, Omni-present, All-knowing, Most Wise, Most Holy, Most Just, Most Merciful and Gracious, Long-Suffering, and Abundant in Goodness and Truth.

WE BELIEVE Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life and perfectly obeyed the law of God in its entirety. He died on the cross paying in full the penalty of the sins of His people, arose bodily from the dead, and ascended into heaven where He is seated at the right hand of God the Father. From there He ministers to and intercedes for His people continually as our High Priest and Advocate.

WE BELIEVE the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ, convict the world of sin, regenerate sinners, and indwell, instruct, guide, and empower the believer unto all manner of godly living.

WE BELIEVE that Adam the first man was created in the perfect image of God but through his disobedience fell into sin and under God’s eternal judgment.  As a result of Adam’s rebellion, Adam’s sin was passed down to his descendants—that is, to all of humanity–and the entire created order was thus subjected to the dominion of sin and all its degenerating effects.

WE BELIEVE that man in his fallen estate is fully deserving of God’s eternal condemnation and unable to save himself, and only through the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit can he obtain salvation and eternal life.

WE BELIEVE that God offers salvation solely on the basis of His grace and mercy and that it is received through faith alone in Jesus Christ rather than by any human merit.

WE BELIEVE the Church is comprised of all regenerated believers united to Christ and to each other through a holy and mystical union. We believe the Church is the Body of Christ of which He is the Head.

WE BELIEVE that the Lord Jesus Christ has instituted and committed two sacraments to the church: baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We believe that these sacraments should be faithfully observed and administered until His return.

WE BELIEVE that Jesus will return bodily and visibly in the full manifestation of His glory to judge the world in righteousness and to receive His people to Himself.

WE BELIEVE in the bodily resurrection from the dead – that the regenerated believer will rise to receive the full redemption and the eternal blessedness that was won for us through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ—and that the non-believer will rise to eternal judgment, condemnation and everlasting, conscious punishment.

WE BELIEVE that all aspects of our lives are to be lived for the glory of God under the Lordship and Authority of Jesus Christ.
